Now UC students are sitting in

Continuing the recent wave of student sit-ins, UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz are taking their turn. It's not about overseas sweatshops, though -- it's about the pay of the janitors on their own campus (AFSCME 3299).

I've done some translating for the janitors here at UW-Madison (AFSCME 171), and I can confirm that their working conditions leave a lot to be desired. After hearing their stories, I'm left with the impression that the administration is really strict and demanding with janitors, not because the work requires it, but because they can. As always, it's a question of power (which is to say, class). Good for the students for standing up for justice at home!
